A journal of the House of Representatives of His Majesties province of New Hampshire in New England, began and held at Portsmouth ..., 1740 July 23-Aug. 7.

Contemporary copy of the journal of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, July 23-Aug. 7, 1740, which the House ordered to be copied, authenticated with the provincial seal by Gov. Belcher, and sent to John Thomlinson, the province's agent in London. The legislature wished to inform the Court of its compliance with instructions to supply a company of men for the West Indian expedition, to protest Gov. Belcher's lack of partiality in the Massachusetts-New Hampshire boundary dispute, and to request that New Hampshire be provided a separate governor from that of Massachusetts Bay.

The Newberry was founded on July 1, 1887 and opened for business on September 6 of that year. Newberry (1804-68), which left what later amounted to approximately $2.2 million for the foundation of a “free, public” library on the north side of the Chicago River, if his two children died without issue. After the deaths of Mr. Newberry’s daughters and then, in 1885, of his widow, t...
